Things are ALWAYS happening around St. PhilipÕs.

Here's just a sampling of some of what you might have missed.

The PhilippianPix Editor knows that the readers have been more than patient with pictures of incipient spring, but would ask to be indulged for just one more photo. The older Godly Play class has set upon a journey of learning about one saint per month. FebruaryÕs saint, not surprisingly, is ÒSt.Ó Valentine, a doctor and priest in Ancient Rome. In that story, a flower figures prominently – the crocus. John took this picture to illustrate to the class that crocus grow in Brevard as well as Ancient Rome!

Lent is upon us. You will hear many discussing what they will give up for Lent, although I believe current wisdom prescribes taking ON a discipline rather than giving up something. In any case, Steve joked that he gave up his right arm for Lent. This would be literal and not figurative: he had surgery for a bicep tendon tear on Ash Wednesday, and it will remain in a cast or brace for approximately six weeks! HereÕs Steve before surgery:

Ah, a purple crocus, a badly bruised arm, Lent approaching. Driving to the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper the PhilippianPix Editor was overcome by a vision: she must only photograph the people present wearing purple. Other people come up with ways to save the world, feed the hungry, or cure cancer. The best this Editor can do is resolve to photograph purple-wearers at a church dinnerÉ. However, St. Philippians did NOT disappoint! (Okay, so if it doesnÕt look purple on your screen, it reflects the inexpertise of the photographer. It DID look purple in personÉ)
