Things are ALWAYS happening around St. PhilipÕs.
Here's just a sampling of some of what you might have
missed.
The past few days
have been about new beginnings. Steve and his helpers Beth and Jan helped all
of the St. Philippian students start a new semester at school and a new year
with another Back to School Breakfast – and despite a 2 hour delay,
almost 40 people showed up for the delicious breakfast!

Monday, January 4
was a busy, busy day at the church. In the parlor, the Prayer Shawl Ministry
was working away. Janet, Leslie, and Ellie hoped their picture was being taken
for the NY Times, but happily, they are appearing in the PhilippianPix, a much
more prestigious publicationÉ

And in the
church itself, the UNHanging of the Greens was finishing up – a big
glorious mess to end the season of Christmas, with a glorious crowd of willing
helpers to clean it up! Susan mans the broom, Dottie oversees the ironwork
moving to storage, Mark waits outside for another load, and Binky carefully
puts away the nativity set for another year. ItÕs a big job, and we are
thankful for the many hands that made it happen – and then UNhappen!

The sacristy
itself was working overtime. For a brief period, it had to contain the manger
for the Christmas/Epiphany pageant, a step for the smaller children to use at
the lectern in the pageant, the big black cases that house the handbells, music
stands, and Christmas bows.

Bill and Jamie move things back into place for the season of
EpiphanyÉin the COLD!

Moving onward.
January 10 was a busy day in the life of St. PhilipÕs. First was the Annual
Meeting – another beginning of a fiscal year in the life of our church.
The adults sat up front in Miller Hall, but Hannah and Sam settled down for a
long morning in the back!

More new
beginnings: Sam and Hannah – fourth graders – acolyte for the first
time as Allison shepherds them on their way in her last year (her tenth) as an
acolyte.

And, saving the
best new beginnings for the last, on January 10, 2010 we celebrated the feast
day of the Baptism of Our Lord. In her sermon, Maria mentioned the stained
glass window of the Baptism of Christ in St. PhilipÕs. (Click here

St. PhilipÕs
welcomed four who were baptized at the 11:15 a.m. service on January 10 –
Palmer and Catherine (left to right):

And again, left

And finally, such a distinguished
group youÕll rarely see on the PhilippianPix pages: the new 2010 Board of the
Shop of St. PhilipÕs gathered at KayÕs home for luncheon and a photo op. You
better believe that this crowd can get things DONE! Click here to read
more about the work of the Shop of St. PhilipÕs. (Back row left to right:
