Things are ALWAYS happening around St. PhilipÕs.
Here's just a sampling of some of what you might have
missed.
May is a time for
transitions, and we have had plenty of them lately at St. PhilipÕs. On Sunday,
May 2, 2010, Steve recognized our three seniors Gio,
Gillie, and Allison, who are underfoot much of the time at St. PhilipÕs doing
something or other. They are good friends outside of these walls, as well
– and here they are in prom finery.

They clean up
nicely! Here is the earliest official PhilippianPix
photograph extant of the three of them together, taken on a church trip to the
Asheboro Zoo in October 2002 (with Jessie, of course).

May transitions
continue with a Fan Club meeting. The Celebrities were
our 7 youth celebrating the Rite 13 Liturgy that took place at the 9:00 a.m.
service on May 16, 2010: Joe, Catherine, Jacob, Liam, Meredith, Chloe, and
Kathleen. Steve and Beth Womble hosted these 7
celebrities, their parents, and their Sunday School
teachers at a lovely sunset dinner on the Thursday prior to the service. They
ate, they enjoyed the view, they laughed – and the fans (their parents)
shared posters of their childÕs life.

Their lovely
posters are still on display in the Miller Hall foyer. I encourage everyone to
stop by and examine the lives in review of these remarkable celebrities in our
midst!

On May 16, 2010,
after the Rite 13 liturgy in church, the annual Sunday School Recognition took
place in Miller Hall to acknowledge the end of another year of growing
together. Suzanne began by telling the Godly Play Story of the Parable of the
Good Shepherd. Most children sat down in the chairs, or nearbyÉ

Ébut as it
progressed, the story pulled everyone in closer and closer!

As the children and teachers are recognized,
everyone gets a small token. As a measure of the transition from our Godly Play
program to the youth program, 5th graders are given the special gift
of a teen Bible. The PhilippianPix camera caught a
grandfather and grandson (Ruffin and Benton) sharing a quiet moment with the
new Bible.
